"The Project Management Body of Knowledge® (PMBOK®) is the sum knowledge within the profession of project management. As with other professions such as law, medicine, and accounting, the body of knowledge rests with the practitioners and academics who apply and advance it. The complete Project Management Body of Knowledge includes proven traditional practices that are widely applied, as well as innovative practices that are emerging in the profession, including published and unpublished material. As a result, the Project Management Body of Knowledge is constantly evolving." Project Management Institute (2004). A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge, Third Edition.
"The Rational® Unified Process® (RUP®) is a software engineering process that describes who does what, when and how in a software development and deployment project. It has the characteristics of being use-case driven, architecture-centric, risk-driven, and iterative." Charbonneau, Serge (May 2004). Software Project Management - A Mapping between RUP and the PMBOK.
"Many organisations wish to standardise their software engineering practices as well as their project management (PM) practices, and two well-known processes are available to help in both these areas, respectively. The IBM® Rational Unified Process, or RUP, offers a prescriptive approach for standardising on software engineering best practices, and the Project Management Institute® (PMI®) Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge® (PMBOK®) offers a descriptive approach for standardising on project management best practices. With both these approaches available to organisations, the question becomes: Are they compatible? The simple answer is, 'Yes'". Charbonneau, Serge (May 2004).Software Project Management - A Mapping between RUP and the PMBOK.
Presence Systems has adopted the Unified Process for both its project management and its software development from business analysis through to implementation. UP and PMBOK are highly complementary. Whilst the PMBOK best practices are generic and applicable to all types of project management, the project management discipline in UP is a specific instance of PMBOK tailored towards software development projects.
With both UP and PMBOK widely regarded as world's best practice, and combined with our Quality Management System, they provide the perfect foundation for Presence Systems to provide our products and services to our clients.
Quality Management SystemWhat is a Quality Management System (QMS)?
A QMS is a system designed to provide an organisation with a set of processes and procedures to ensure a sensible, consistent approach to the management of the organisation. The system should ensure consistency and improvement of work practices and feedback to ensure this consistency and improvement is occurring. The true purpose of a QMS is to ensure that an organisation can meet and exceed the requirements and expectations of its clients, internal or external.
What is ISO 9000?ISO 9000 is the most commonly used international standard that provides a framework on which to build a QMS. ISO 9000 is in fact the generic name given to a group of standards. This group of standards was last revised in December 2000, producing the ISO 9000:2000 series of standards.
Presence Systems' QMS <>Presence Systems is in the process of implementing a QMS based on the ISO 9000:2000 standards. Our QMS covers all aspects of our business activities from document management to source control, quality auditing to recruitment and staff training. At Presence, our QMS is the underlying framework of our business.
